Preparations

Well now, my long awaited visit to Europe is less than 2 weeks away! Soon I will be enjoying the splendor of far off lands, meeting new people, and forming lasting memories for years to come. But first, I must finish my preparations. 3 trips are now booked. I just have 1 or 2 to go. Then it's time to make copies of important documents, arrange for a babysitter for Dale (the turtle) and pack.

Adventure will surely be plentiful, especially with all of the language barriers I am sure to encounter. I'll be staying in France, yet I speak very little French. Visits to Spain, Italy, Germany, and Ireland are sure to provide communication barriers of their own. Well, not Spain, at least. I did study in Mexico for 3 months, afterall. Hmm... I better add "pick up phrase books" to my list of preparations.

Given my general way of procrastinating, I'd say my preparations for this trip are going rather well and according to schedule. The trip is still more than a week away and I'm already almost finished with the most important tasks! Yay for me!

Little Blue Book & A Ticket for 1

My beloved passport arrived today! 2 days ahead of schedule! I would like to take a moment to thank the fine people of the US Department of State and the Postal Service for their timeliness in this matter. The application status on the web said it would arrive on or about 9/22/10. I expected it to arrive late and to be scrambling to schedule a flight. How lovely that it came early today!

Without this little blue book, my upcoming adventures would have been a legal impossibility. Ah, the power of books shines bright once again. Now on to the travel arrangements...

The next most important thing about traveling abroad is getting there to begin with! Using the Kayak website, I was able to search for the best travel deals out of a number of search engines including Cheap Tickets, Expedia, and Orbitz. If you are ever looking for great deals on flights, I would definitely recommend using Kayak. I booked my flight and the confirmation came within a couple of hours.

Now I have my little blue book and ticket for one. On to the next phase: checking visa requirements and deciding what to pack.
